Not every plan has to be built in the program builder. If you already have a program as a PDF, or it lives on a website, you can assign that. The trainee opens the file or the site inside the app instead of a built plan. These are called file plans. They work for both training and nutrition.

When to use one

A file plan gives Perform nothing to track. The trainee reads the plan, but exercise logs, personal records and plan-based nutrition data are not collected from it. Tracking screens show This data is not collected from the trainee because they use a file plan.

Create a file plan template

1

Open the window

On the Training programs page, choose PDF or link plan.
2

Name it

Fill in Plan name.
3

Choose the source

Pick PDF file to upload a file, or Link to paste a web address under Link to the plan.
4

Set the rest

Choose a Folder if you want one. For a training plan you can set Workouts per week. It is optional and counts the workouts the trainee marks as done.
5

Create

Choose Create plan. You see Plan created.
The template appears in your library with a PDF or Link badge.

Limits

  • A file has to be a PDF. Anything else shows Pick a PDF file.
  • The file can be up to 30 MB. A larger one shows The file is too large. Maximum 30 MB.
  • A link has to be a full web address that starts with http:// or https://. Otherwise you see Enter a full web address, like https://example.com.

PDF or site

Perform decides how to show a link by its ending. An address whose path ends in .pdf is treated as a PDF. Anything else is treated as a website.

Edit a file plan

Choose Edit on the card, or Edit details in its More actions menu. The page shows the file or site on one side and Plan details on the other. Choose Save to keep your changes.

Replace the file

Choose Replace file and pick a new PDF. You see File replaced. Replacing the file clears a link if one was set, so the plan goes back to showing the PDF. On a link plan the same action reads Upload a PDF instead.
Changing the file or the link on a template does not reach plans already assigned. Trainees who have the plan keep what they have. Assign the plan again to give them the new version.

The site preview

For a link plan, the page shows the site in a preview frame with an Open site button. Some sites do not allow themselves to be shown inside another page, so the preview may stay blank. Trainees still see the site in the app.

Assign a file plan

Assign it like any other template. See Assign a plan. One difference: when you assign from a trainee card, the customize step only asks for the plan name. A file plan has no content to attach personal adjustments to.

A PDF for one trainee only

To give a single trainee a PDF without adding it to your library:
1

Open the trainee's plans

Open the trainee card, go to Training and nutrition plans and choose Add training plan.
2

Choose PDF plan

Select the PDF plan tab.
3

Upload and name

Upload the PDF file, fill in Plan name and, for training, an optional Workouts per week.
4

Create

Choose Create plan.
The plan belongs to that trainee and is active in the app at once. It does not appear in your template library.

A trainee’s file plan

On the trainee card, a file plan has Open PDF or Open site instead of the builder. Opening it shows the file with the note File plan · read only. There is nothing to edit per trainee. To change it, assign a different plan and end this one. The Active in app switch, End plan and the plan history work as they do for built plans. See Trainee plans.

What the trainee sees

  • A PDF opens inside the app, with a control to view it full screen.
  • A site opens inside the app, with a button to open it in the phone’s browser.
  • For a training file plan with Workouts per week set, the trainee can mark workouts as done and you see the count against the weekly target.

Known rough edge

Some labels in the trainee app and in the check-in overview say PDF for a link plan as well. The plan itself opens correctly as a site.
