Fields every food has
Calories mode
The macro type is not shown in this mode. Perform sets it from the macros.
Portions mode
The form is longer in portions mode because it also describes how the food converts to portions and how the trainee sees amounts.Classification
Categories are used for the library filter, for the shopping recommendations and for trainee food preferences. Tag foods carefully. See Food preferences.
What the values are based on
This section answers one question: what amount do the nutrition values refer to?- Base amount and Unit type set that amount, for example 100 Gram, 100 ml or 1 Unit.
- For a food counted in units, such as an egg or a slice of bread, Weight of one piece tells Perform how many grams one piece weighs. It is optional, but without it Perform cannot convert grams to pieces for this food.
How the trainee sees it
Choosing Household measure as the display preference requires both a household measure and its grams. Otherwise you see Household display preference requires a household measure and grams.
With a household measure set, the trainee sees amounts such as “1½ cups” with the grams next to it.
Servings
The Servings section lists the serving sizes of the food. Each serving has a Serving size, a Unit, an optional Household measure, Kcal, and the protein, carb and fat grams with their portion values.- Choose Add serving for another size and Remove to drop one.
- A food needs at least one serving. Without one you see Add at least one serving.
- All servings of a food use the same unit, and no two can have the same size.
- As you type the grams, the portion value next to them is suggested for you. Typing a portion value yourself makes the food a Manual values food.
Custom portion values
This section is folded away by default, because most foods never need it. Open it to set how much of the food makes exactly one portion:- Amount per 1 protein portion
- Amount per 1 carb portion
- Amount per 1 fat portion
Calculator
At the bottom of the form, the calculator shows how many portions any amount of this food is worth. Use it to check a food before you save.Switches
Every food has these switches. In calories mode you see the last two.
Two things to know:
- Turning Recommended alternative on also turns Include in shopping recommendations on. You can switch shopping back off afterwards. Turning recommended off does not touch the shopping switch.
- Include as automatic alternative and Include in shopping recommendations are independent. A food you hide from substitutes can still appear in shopping recommendations.
Turning off “Include as automatic alternative”
Switching it off retires the food as a substitute everywhere, including in plans you already built:- It is no longer suggested automatically.
- If you picked it by hand as a substitute in a plan, it stops being offered to the trainee and disappears from the substitute tags in the builder.
- The plan itself is not changed. Turn the switch back on and the food returns as a substitute wherever it was.
- It can still be the main food of a meal, and trainees can still log it when they record what they ate.
Save and restore
- Save stores the food. You see Food added successfully or Food updated successfully.
- Restore to default appears only on an edited system food. See Food library.
