Notifications control lists every push notification the trainee app sends for your studio. For each one you decide whether it is sent, what it says and whether it plays a sound. Open Business settings, then Notifications control. Studio owners and admins can change the settings.

The screen

The page has three parts:
  • The list of notifications, grouped by category. Each row shows whether the notification is active.
  • The editor for the notification you selected.
  • What the trainee sees, a phone preview that updates as you type. It uses sample data, such as a sample form name.
Above the list, a summary shows how many notifications are active and how many are off. Use the search box to find a notification by its name or its text. The filter chips show All, Active or Off.

The notification types

Workout

These three are scheduled by the trainee’s own phone during a workout, so they work even with a weak connection.

Forms

These two can hold several messages each. See Form notifications and reminders.

Plans

The two “updated” notifications are sent at most once every 6 hours for a plan. You can save a plan several times while you work on it without sending the trainee a notification each time. A plan that combines training and nutrition sends both the training and the nutrition notification.

Subscription

Messages

Turning Coach message off stops every message you send by push: bulk messages, task nudges and automation pushes. The send screens warn you when it is off.

Turn a notification on or off

  1. Click the notification in the list.
  2. Use the switch at the top of the editor.
  3. Click Save.
An inactive notification is never sent. The phone preview shows it as off. Not every notification starts active. Go through the list once and decide for each one.

Edit the text

1

Select the notification

Click it in the list. The editor shows a Title and a Subtext.
2

Write the title

The title is required. A title longer than about 60 characters may be cut off on the lock screen, and the editor suggests moving part of it to the subtext.
3

Write the subtext

The subtext is the smaller text under the title. It is optional.
4

Add variables

Click Add a variable and pick one. It goes in at the cursor and shows as a chip. When the notification is sent, the chip is replaced with the real value.
5

Choose the sound

The Sound switch decides whether the notification plays a sound.
6

Save

Click Save. Cancel drops your changes. Restore the original text brings back Perform’s default wording, and you still need to click Save to confirm it.

Variables

Each notification only offers the variables that make sense for it. If you type a variable by hand that this notification does not support, the editor warns you. It will be sent as plain text, not replaced.

Length

A title can be up to 300 characters and a subtext up to 1,500. Shorter is better. Phones show only the first lines.

Unsaved changes

Rows with changes you have not saved are marked in the list, and the summary shows how many there are. Each notification is saved on its own, so save before you move to the next one.

What trainees control

Trainees can switch off groups of notifications in their app, under Notifications in their profile:
  • Check-in reminders
  • New forms
  • Plan updates
  • Workout reminders
  • Subscription
Messages from your coach is always on and cannot be switched off by the trainee. A trainee only sees the groups that have at least one notification active for your studio.

Why a trainee did not get a notification

Check these in order:
  1. The notification is off in Notifications control.
  2. The trainee has no registered device. They never installed the app, are signed out, or refused notifications on their phone.
  3. The trainee muted that group in their app.
  4. For plan updates, another update was sent in the last 6 hours.
  5. For forms, no active message matches that form type.
