The app sends two kinds of notifications. Some come from the server when something happens on your side, such as a new form or an updated plan. Others are set by the app itself during a workout, such as the end of a rest. Both kinds need the trainee to allow notifications on their phone.

Allowing notifications

The app asks for permission right after the first sign-in. If the trainee refuses, they get no notifications at all, and the app keeps reminding them:
  • a card on the Home tab, Notifications are off - you will not get updates from your coach,
  • the same card at the top of the notification preferences screen.
The card’s button is Turn on notifications when the phone can still ask, and Open settings when the permission has to be changed in the phone settings. On home the card can be closed, and it stays away for seven days.

What the trainee can receive

The wording of each notification is set by your studio in the notification settings on the web, and each one can be switched off there for the whole studio. The table shows what triggers each one and where a tap leads. Good to know:
  • Plan updated notifications are held back so a trainee is not pinged for every small edit. At most one is sent per plan type in six hours.
  • In a new studio, Nutrition plan assigned, Subscription renewed and Subscription frozen start switched off until you turn them on.
  • The three workout notifications are scheduled by the phone itself, so they work without a connection. They are cancelled when the workout is finished or discarded.
  • Form notifications can carry several messages and reminders, each with its own text and timing. Those are set on the web.

Notification preferences

Profile, then Notifications (hint: Choose which notifications you get). The screen says Switch off what you do not need. Everything else stays on. There are six groups, each with a switch. A switch takes effect right away and is saved to the trainee’s account, so it follows them to a new phone. If saving fails the app shows Saving failed, try again.

What muting does

  • A muted group is not sent to that trainee at all. Your studio setting stays as it is for everyone else.
  • Muting only stops the notification. A waiting form is still listed under Forms to fill on the home screen.
  • Messages from your coach cannot be muted from the app. To stop them the trainee would have to turn off notifications for the whole app in the phone settings.

When a notification does not arrive

Check these in order.
  1. Phone permission. Is the Notifications are off card showing on the trainee’s home screen?
  2. Trainee preferences. Did they switch that group off under Profile, Notifications?
  3. Studio settings. Is that notification switched on in your notification settings on the web?
  4. Signed in. Notifications go to phones where the trainee is signed in. After Sign out, that phone stops receiving them.
  5. Plan updates. A second update within six hours does not send another notification.
On Android, the phone’s settings for the app list separate notification channels, including Rest timer, Workout reminders and Messages from your coach. A trainee who silenced one channel there will not hear that kind, even when everything in the app is switched on.
