What steps are used for
- The Daily steps goal on the Home and Workouts tabs, when the training plan has a step goal.
- The trainee’s daily record, where each day’s step total is saved.
Connecting
There are two ways in.The first-launch question
After the first sign-in, once the notification question is answered, the app asks for access to steps. On iPhone this is the Apple Health sheet, where the trainee switches Steps on. On Android it is the Health Connect permission screen. The app asks this once. A trainee who says no is not asked again automatically. From the profile
Profile, under Health & devices, has a card Apple Health / Google Health with the hint Automatic step sync.Android and Health Connect
On recent Android versions Health Connect is part of the system. On older phones it is a separate app from Google Play. When it is missing or out of date, the app offers it once at first launch:Install Health Connect. Perform reads your steps from Health Connect. Install it from Google Play to sync them automatically. The buttons are Install and Not now. After installing, the trainee comes back to Perform and the app asks for step access. If they chose Not now, the same offer stays available on the profile card. For steps to appear, the app that counts them, such as the phone’s own fitness app or a watch app, must be set to share steps with Health Connect.
When the sync runs
- When the trainee connects.
- Each time the app is opened or brought back to the front.
- In the background, about every 15 minutes when the phone allows it. Phones decide for themselves when background work runs, so this is not exact.
- When the trainee taps Sync now.
Messages on the card
Disconnecting
Disconnect on the card stops the sync and the background updates. Steps already sent stay in the trainee’s record. Signing out also clears the connection on that phone, so after signing in again the trainee connects again. When steps do not show
- Is the card showing Connect? Then it is not connected.
- On iPhone, open the Health app, find Perform under the apps that have access, and make sure Steps is allowed.
- On Android, open Health Connect, check that Perform may read steps, and that the app that counts steps is writing to Health Connect.
- Tap Sync now with a working connection.
- Check that the training plan has a step goal. Without one, the Daily steps card is not shown anywhere, even when steps are syncing.
