Trainees have a shopping list in the app. They fill it from a set of foods you recommend. You control that set from the food library, one food at a time.

Recommend a food

1

Open the food

In the Food library, choose Edit on the food.
2

Turn the switch on

Turn on Include in shopping recommendations. The hint under it reads Show this food in the trainee’s shopping list recommendations.
3

Save

Choose Save.
Turn the switch off to remove the food from the recommendations. The switch is on every food, system and studio alike, in both calories mode and portions mode.
  • Only foods with Include in shopping recommendations on are shown.
  • Trainees see system foods and your studio’s own foods. They do not see other studios’ foods.
  • For a system food, the switch is part of your studio’s version of the food. Turning it on or off affects your trainees only.
In portions mode, turning on Recommended alternative for a food also turns on Include in shopping recommendations. The idea is that a food you recommend eating is a food you recommend buying. It only works in that direction:
  • You can turn the shopping switch back off and keep the food recommended.
  • Turning Recommended alternative off leaves the shopping switch as it is.
A new food marked as a recommended alternative is included in shopping recommendations unless you say otherwise.

Independent of substitutes

Include as automatic alternative and the shopping switch do not affect each other. A food you hide from substitutes can still be recommended for shopping, and the other way round.

Categories

Recommendations are grouped by the food’s categories.
  • A food tagged with several categories, such as Meat, Dairy or Vegan, appears under each of them.
  • A food with a single category appears under that one.
  • A food with no category appears under Other.
A category shows only when it holds at least one recommended food, with a count next to it. Tagging foods well makes the list easier for trainees to browse. See The food editor.

What the trainee does

Browse the recommendations. In the content area of the app, the trainee opens Shopping Recommendations, described as Foods your coach recommends buying. They can search by name and filter by category. Add foods. Each food has an add button. Adding the same food twice does not create a second line. Use the list. From their profile the trainee opens Shopping list, described as Items you plan to buy. There they tick items off as they shop and remove items they no longer want. Add items takes them back to the recommendations. An empty list reads Your shopping list is empty, with the hint Add foods from Shopping Recommendations.

Good to know

  • Each trainee has their own list. You set the recommendations. You do not see or edit a trainee’s list from the web app.
  • The list remembers the name and brand of each item at the moment it was added. If you rename or delete the food later, the item stays readable on the trainee’s list.
  • The recommendations are the same for every trainee in your studio. They are not tailored per trainee and they do not read a trainee’s nutrition plan.
  • A food excluded in a trainee’s food preferences can still show in the shopping recommendations. Preferences affect the menu, not the shopping list.

The content preview

In the content library’s app preview, the shopping area appears as a chip named Shopping list picks, next to the content categories. It is how the entry looks in the trainee’s content area.
