Perform does not send WhatsApp messages by itself. It works through SmartSend, the WhatsApp service your studio already uses. Connecting the two gives you:
  • The trainee’s WhatsApp chat inside Perform, on the Work Board, the trainee card and check-in review.
  • An Open in SmartSend button on tasks, trainee cards and lead cards.
  • WhatsApp steps in automations, sent from your own number.
  • WhatsApp as a channel for check-in feedback.
  • The mailing list button on the trainee list.
Separately, you choose which number trainees reach when they tap the WhatsApp button in their app. That setting does not need SmartSend. Both are in Business settings, under General. Only studio owners and admins see these sections.

Connect SmartSend

1

Find your key in SmartSend

In SmartSend, open Settings, then Integrations, and copy the “Organization API Key”.
2

Paste it in Perform

In Business settings, open General and scroll to the Integrations section. In the SmartSend chat card, paste the key into the key field and click Connect.
3

Check the badge

The card shows a Connected badge. If the key is wrong, Perform refuses it and nothing is saved.
To change the key later, click Replace key.
The organization key gives access to your SmartSend account. Paste it only into this field. Do not share it in chats or screenshots.

Map coaches to SmartSend users

The embedded chat opens under a SmartSend user. Mapping tells Perform which SmartSend user each coach is, so messages go out under the right name.
  1. In the SmartSend chat card, find Coach mapping.
  2. For each coach, pick the matching SmartSend user from the list. Pick None for a coach who should not use the chat.
  3. Click Save mapping.
If the list of users does not load, the card says fetching SmartSend users failed. Check the key. A coach who is not mapped sees “Your user is not mapped to SmartSend” in place of the chat.

Save the organisation slug

The Open in SmartSend button opens a trainee’s conversation in the SmartSend website. It needs your organisation’s slug, the part of the SmartSend address that identifies your account.
  1. In the SmartSend chat card, find SmartSend organisation slug.
  2. Type the slug and click Save.
The slug can only contain letters, digits, dots, dashes and underscores. Without it, the Open in SmartSend button is hidden, because there is no conversation address to open.

Where the chat appears

The chat loads when all three are true:
  1. SmartSend is connected.
  2. Your user is mapped.
  3. The person has a saved phone number.
When one is missing, the panel tells you which and links to settings.

The WhatsApp number trainees see

Trainees have a WhatsApp button on their home screen, and a contact button on the home banner. This setting controls where those buttons lead. In Business settings, open General and find the WhatsApp section, WhatsApp for trainees. Leave Contact number empty to send each trainee to the phone of their own assigned coach. If that coach has no phone number saved, the buttons stay hidden for that trainee.
The contact button shown to a trainee whose subscription is paused always stays, even when this setting is off. A paused trainee can always reach the studio.

Disconnecting

There is no disconnect button. To stop Perform from using an account, replace the key with a different one, or revoke the key on the SmartSend side.

Sending messages

Use the chat and the other channels.
