A technique video is a short clip of the trainee doing one exercise, sent to you for review. Whether the app asks for one depends on the rule you set on that exercise in the training plan.

When the trainee sees the option

Each exercise in a plan has one of three settings. With the requested setting, the app decides when a video is due:
  • First time. If you asked for a video the first time the exercise is done, it is due until the trainee sends one.
  • Every N workouts. If you set an interval, another video becomes due each time the trainee has done the exercise that many more times.
  • One-off request. If you ask for a video of an exercise from the web, it is due until the trainee uploads a video of that exercise after your request. This works even when the exercise’s own setting is off or optional.

The popup

When a video is due, the popup appears right after the trainee ticks the first set of that exercise. It reads Film a technique video and:
Hi, please upload a technique video of (exercise name). Your coach will review it and send feedback.
If the exercise has a demo picture or video, a Demo tile opens the exercise instructions so the trainee can check the form first. The buttons are Film video and Skip. Skipping closes the popup for this workout. The trainee can still finish the workout without sending a video. The popup comes back in the next workout that includes the exercise, for as long as the video is due. The trainee can also open the same popup at any time by tapping Send technique video on the exercise. When the video is optional, the second button reads Close instead of Skip.

Sending the video

After Film video the phone offers:
  • Record video, which opens the camera. The app asks for camera permission the first time.
  • Choose from gallery, to pick a clip that was already filmed.
While the video uploads, the button shows a spinner. When it is done the app shows Video sent to your coach ✓ and the button on the exercise turns green and reads Video sent.
One video can be up to 15 MB. A longer or high resolution clip may be refused with This file is too large. Choose a smaller one. Ask the trainee to film one set only, or a few reps.
If the upload fails for another reason the app shows Failed to send video. Please try again. The trainee can tap the button and try again.

Your feedback in the app

When you review a video on the web and write a note, the trainee sees it the next time they open a workout with that exercise. A card titled Note from your coach appears on the exercise with your text. The trainee closes it with the X. After that it does not show again. Only the newest reviewed video with an unread note is shown, so an older note is replaced by a newer one.

Technique videos in forms

A form can also contain a video upload question. That is a separate thing: it belongs to the form answers and is not tied to an exercise. See Forms and check-ins.
